Materos Unidos

A shared mate can
bridge any gap

The yerba mate brand I founded in Montréal in 2025 — traceable sourcing, three languages, one circle. Winner of Gran Oro at the first Mundial de la Yerba Mate.

Gran Oro — Mundial de la Yerba Mate 2026

We entered our yerba in the first Yerba Mate World Championship and won Grand Gold. The award changed nothing about how we work. We still inspect every lot, still answer every message, still pour every morning. It just proved what the circle already knew.

Origin

It started with a drink I did not like

My first trip to Argentina introduced me to mate, and my first impression was that it tasted strange. Bitter, grassy, unfamiliar. What stayed with me was not the flavour but the choreography: one gourd, one straw, passed clockwise around a circle, refilled by whoever brought it. Nobody drinks mate alone by preference.

The taste caught up eventually. Now I drink it every single day, and in April 2025 I founded Materos Unidosmatero, someone passionate about mate; unidos, united. One brand, three languages, one circle. Born in Montréal, where English, French, and Spanish share the same table, and the same gourd.

The mission is narrow on purpose: make mate genuinely accessible to people who did not grow up with it. Not just sell yerba, but connect people through it. It is a small operation, built slowly, and built by someone who actually drinks the stuff every day.

Sourcing

Mate is a drink with an address

We don't just source yerba — we show you where it comes from. The farm, the harvest, the drying method: all documented, nothing hidden.

Our Ilex paraguariensis is shade-grown and air-dried, not smoked, at a named partner farm in Paraná, Brazil. It is grown without synthetic pesticides and is non-GMO. Everything is CFIA compliant and packed for Canada.

That traceability is not a marketing position. It is simply the least I would want to know before drinking something every morning.

The range

Loose leaf, and the things you need to drink it

The centre of it is one product: air-dried, unsmoked loose-leaf yerba. Around that, the small number of objects the ritual actually requires — a thermos that holds water at temperature for a working day, a bombilla, a starter set for someone’s first circle, and tea bags for people who want the drink without the gourd.

I am not going to run a catalogue at you here. What exists, and what it costs, lives on the store.

A note on what this is not

Materos Unidos sells a beverage. It is an independent business with no connection to any pharmacy, clinic, or health institution, and it is not built on or endorsed by my pharmacy studies. We make no health, medical, therapeutic, or nutritional claims about yerba mate — not about energy, focus, metabolism, or anything else. Drink it because you like the taste and want to know where it came from.
